Inlays & Onlays

Teeth are strong and fragile, which is why proper dental care is so important to keep our teeth healthy as long as possible. If they are not cleaned properly, cavities form and are usually treated with a filling or sometimes a crown. There are some times when the damage does not warrant a crown but needs more work than a regular filling. That is when a dentist will suggest inlays or onlays.

Inlays are used with the damage is between the cusp and the center of the teeth. They are made of tooth-colored materials to appear more natural, such as ceramic or porcelain. The dentist will first remove the decay from the took and then take an impression of the damaged tooth. A separate appointment will be needed to complete the inlay bonding. Onlays are the same procedure as inlays, however, they are for damages on the edges of the tooth.

If you feel that you need an inlay or onlay, please give us a call to schedule your appointment.
