Fillings

Dental fillings are one of the more common procedures you will experience at the dentist. Dental filling is the process of filling a cavity in your teeth. A cavity is formed when bacteria living in plaque and debris begin to break down the enamel, causing a hole to form in your tooth. This treatment fills in the holes that are created by the decay to restore the tooth to its full strength and protect it from further decay. Brushing your teeth and having good oral hygiene is the best way to help protect your enamel and make it stronger and have a better change to fight the cavity-causing-bacteria.

Depending on the severity of the cavity, you may be able to get your filling during your routine dental exam. Most cavities can be seen with standard dental tools but sometimes the use of X-Rays are required to make sure the dentist can successfully assess the severity of the cavity. Your tooth is then numbed, cleaned, and the filling is applied. The filling is the hardened and polished. Different filling color options can be discussed with your dentist. The site of the filling may be extra sensitive for a little while, so we recommend avoiding anything too hot or too cold.
